Privacy Policy
Effective date: 27 April 2026 · Applies to the Breathing Zone iOS and Android applications.
This Privacy Policy describes the policies of Breathing Zone Ltd ("we," "us," or "our") on the collection, use, and disclosure of your information in connection with your use of the Breathing Zone mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. What Information We Collect and How
Breathing Zone is designed to work without an account. We collect the minimum information needed to provide and improve the App.
Information you provide directly:
- Support correspondence. If you contact us by email, we receive the email address you write from and the contents of your message.
Information collected automatically during use:
- Usage and analytics data (Android). The Android version of the App uses Google Analytics, Google Firebase Analytics, and Firebase Crashlytics to record anonymised usage events (e.g. which screens you open, which session lengths you choose) and crash reports. This includes your device model, operating system version, app version, country-level location derived from IP address, a Firebase-generated app instance ID, and the Android Advertising ID (AAID). We do not collect your name, email address, or precise location.
- Android Advertising ID (AAID). Breathing Zone reads the AAID and provides it to Google Analytics and Firebase for the sole purpose of measurement and crash diagnostics. The App does not display advertising of any kind. The AAID is not used to personalise content, is not shared with advertising networks, and is not used to build user profiles for advertising purposes. You can reset or delete your AAID at any time in your Android device settings under Settings → Privacy → Ads.
- iOS App Analytics. The iOS version may share aggregated, anonymised diagnostic data with us via Apple's App Analytics service if you have opted in to "Share With App Developers" in your iOS Privacy settings. This data is not linked to your identity.
- Transaction data. If you make an in-app purchase, the App receives a confirmation receipt from the App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or have access to your payment card details.
Information stored only on your device:
- Session history and preferences. Your breathing session history, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us.
- Apple HealthKit (iOS only). If you grant permission, the App reads from and writes to Apple HealthKit — typically writing Mindful Minutes after a completed session. HealthKit data stays on your device under Apple's protection. We never receive HealthKit data, and we never share it with anyone.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App — operate features, save your local preferences, log sessions to HealthKit when permitted.
- To improve the App — analyse anonymised usage patterns, diagnose crashes, and prioritise improvements.
- To process in-app purchases — unlock features after the App Store or Google Play confirms a purchase.
- To respond to support requests — reply to messages you send us.
- For legal compliance — meet our legal obligations and prevent abuse.
3. Third-Party Services
We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with the third parties listed below, each of which is required to protect your data to a standard equivalent to this policy and to the App Store and Google Play guidelines.
- Google (Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics & Firebase Crashlytics) — used on Android for anonymised usage analytics and crash reporting. Google receives the data described in Section 1, including the Android Advertising ID, and processes it under the Firebase Privacy & Security and Google Privacy Policy.
- Apple — for iOS App Analytics (if enabled by you), HealthKit storage on your device, and processing in-app purchases.
- Google Play — for processing in-app purchases on Android.
4. Data Retention
- On-device data (session history, preferences, HealthKit entries) is retained for as long as the App is installed on your device. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.
- Firebase Analytics data is retained according to Google's default Firebase Analytics retention period of 14 months for user-level event data. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be retained longer.
- Crashlytics crash reports are retained for 90 days.
- Support email correspondence is retained for up to 24 months so we can refer back to prior conversations, then deleted.
5. Data Deletion
You can remove your data in the following ways:
- Local data: Uninstall the App, which removes all locally-stored session history and preferences.
- HealthKit data: Open the Apple Health app on your iOS device → Browse → Mindfulness → Mindful Minutes → edit or delete entries. You can also revoke Breathing Zone's access at any time under Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Breathing Zone.
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics data: Email support@breathing.zone with the subject "Data Deletion Request" and we will submit a deletion request to Google for any analytics data associated with your device's Firebase app instance ID. Deletion is typically completed within 30 days.
- Support email correspondence: Email support@breathing.zone requesting deletion of prior correspondence; we will delete it within 30 days.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to ask that it be corrected or deleted, and to revoke your consent for our collection of your data at any time. To exercise these rights, email support@breathing.zone.
7. Security
We use commercially acceptable means to protect your information and rely on the security infrastructure of Google Firebase and Apple. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it as soon as possible. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided personal information to us can contact support@breathing.zone.
9. International Transfers
Breathing Zone Ltd is based in New Zealand. Data processed by Firebase is handled by Google's infrastructure, which may store and process data in the United States and other countries. By using the App you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated policy at this URL and updating the Effective Date above. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
